XRP was Initially created for using in Ripple which was developed by Ryan Fugger (2004), Jed McCaleb, Arthur Britto, David Schwartz (2011), and Chris Larsen (2012). They formed OpenCoin Inc. which was later renamed to Ripple Labs company and launched XRP in 2013. 100 billion XRP were created, 20% held by creators, 80% held by Ripple Labs, and 0.2% given to researchers who volunteered in the project and charities.
