Bitcoin was created in 2009 by an unknown person or a group of developers with the pseudonym of Satoshi Nakamoto. His or their goal was to create a new electronic cash system that was completely decentralized with no server or central authority.
Nakamoto passed on the source code and domains to the Bitcoin community and then mysteriously vanished. Nakamoto seemingly created Bitcoin in response to the 2008 financial crisis after Occupy Wall Street accused banks of misusing borrowers’ money and charging baffling fees.
