What is LUNA?

Modified on Wed, 2 Oct at 6:12 PM

LUNA is one of the main currencies of the Terra network, a blockchain network that supports smart contracts. It was created to support the creation of Algorithmic Stablecoin to drive real-life cryptocurrency payments.

Terra uses a Proof-of-Stake consensus algorithm. LUNA holders can lock their coins in the network (Stake) to help verify transactions and receive LUNA as rewards, as well as being able to participate in the governance of the network.

Not only smart contracts, but the Terra network also supports NFT (Non-Fungible Token), DeFi (Decentralized Finance), Web 3.0, and bridges that connect to other networks like Ethereum, Solana, and Polygon.
