What is Cardano?

Modified on Sun, 19 Feb, 2023 at 10:23 PM

Cardano, similar to Ethereum, is a smart contract platform that was launched in 2015 as an effort to change the way cryptocurrencies were developed. It claims to be the third generation of blockchain that addresses its previous predecessors' 3 main problems namely scalabilityinteroperability, and sustainability through a layered architecture.

Instead of the usual white paper where it is directly implemented to codes, Cardano started its conception by embracing a collection of design principles, orchestrating best practices, and trying out avenues for exploration. It is the first of its kind to be created from scientific philosophy and built on peer-reviewed academic research. This means that the team of Cardano makes sure that a global team of leading academics and engineers read, review, and have a consensus on any of their outcomes.
