What does synchronizing means and why does it take so long?

Synchronizing is downloading and verification process of all bitcoin transaction history on the network. The process is an important phase to ensure that bitcoin transactions are safe and secure. All previous transactions have to be recorded in order to make new transaction. Synchronization process can take hours or days to complete. Since bitcoin contain large amount of data, people who wish to be miners should invest in a computer with a higher than average speed to process synchronization faster.
