What is Ethereum Virtual Machine?

Modified on Fri, 17 Feb, 2023 at 4:26 PM

The smart contract code is run by Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) which runs on the computers of all participants on the network. EVM is also commonly described as “Turing complete” that pertains to the capability to run any program, regardless of the programming language. This means that developers can create applications using friendly programming languages similar to existing languages like Python and JavaScript called “Solidity”.

Another unique characteristic of EVM is that it provides developers security to execute untrusted codes around the world while ensuring that the programs do not interfere with each other. The EVM is completely isolated from the Ethereum network making it the perfect sandbox tool to test and improve smart contracts.
