Why do I have to wait for Bitcoin “Confirmation”?

Modified on Fri, 17 Feb, 2023 at 1:21 PM

Bitcoin transaction is similar to fiat currency that both of them need a confirmation; however, the form of confirmation is different. Fiat currency uses a personal signature or depending on the requirements of the sending company while Bitcoins creates a new block. Usually, the system creates one block every 10 minutes through mining and later adds it into a blockchain.  Each block contains a transaction to be confirmed.

You can enter your transaction ID in block explorer to check your transfer status: https://live.blockcypher.com/btc/

To confirm if your bitcoin transaction is valid, you need at least 6 confirmations which mostly consumes an hour. If you wait for more than 72 hours and you still do not receive a confirmation, you should contact your wallet provider.
