Get to Know Blast – A Fast-Growing Layer 2 Token on Ethereum Designed for Passive Income

Modified on Thu, 4 Sep at 11:29 AM

What is Blast (BLAST)

Blast (BLAST) is a scalability solution on the Ethereum network, specifically a Layer 2 protocol. It is designed to allow users to earn yield directly from their assets while reducing transaction fees compared to traditional Layer 2 networks. Blast introduces new features that enable users to generate passive income simply by holding ETH or stablecoins on the network, without needing to farm or participate in any DeFi protocols.

Blast was launched with the goal of combining DeFi yield opportunities with the scalability of Layer 2 solutions. This unique approach has quickly drawn attention from the crypto community, thanks to its user-focused rewards and a transaction system that is both fast and low-cost.

Key Features of Blast

Blast stands out from other Layer 2 solutions with several notable features, including:

1. Native Yield Generation: Users who hold ETH on the Blast network automatically earn yield from Ethereum staking. Meanwhile, users holding stablecoins receive yield through protocols connected to real-world assets, allowing their assets to grow passively.

2. Built on Ethereum Layer 2: Blast is built on Ethereum Layer 2, inheriting Ethereum’s security while significantly increasing transaction speed and reducing gas fees. This makes it an ideal solution for developers and users seeking efficient DeFi experiences.

3. Rapidly Growing Ecosystem:  Blast actively fosters partnerships and dApp development through incentive programs. Both early-stage developers and users benefit from these programs, helping the network expand rapidly.

4. Rewards for Users and Developers: The protocol distributes BLAST tokens to both users and developers, promoting a healthy and balanced ecosystem that grows together on both sides.

Blast Development Team

Tieshun Roquerre – Blast was founded by Tieshun Roquerre, also known as “Pacman.” Pacman previously created Blur, a highly successful NFT marketplace. With his experience, Pacman aims to address challenges in the DeFi space, such as fragmented yield sources and high transaction costs, by integrating yield generation directly into the Layer 2 infrastructure. This approach makes passive income generation more accessible to everyday users.

As for his educational background, Roquerre dropped out of high school in 2015 to launch a startup called StrongIntro, which helped tech companies expand their engineering teams through referral-based hiring. In 2016, he joined Y Combinator with StrongIntro while simultaneously beginning a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Computer Science at MIT. In 2018, he left MIT to co-found Namebase, and in 2019, he was awarded the Thiel Fellowship to further develop Namebase.

What is the BLAST Token?

BLAST is a utility and governance token within the Blast ecosystem. It plays a vital role in powering the network, allocating incentives, and enabling the community to participate in key protocol decisions.

The primary use cases of the BLAST token include:

  • Governance: Token holders can vote on important matters such as protocol parameter adjustments, network upgrades, and reward allocations.
  • Incentives and Rewards: BLAST is distributed as a reward to users who bridge assets to Blast, interact with dApps, and contribute to the growth of the ecosystem.
  • Fees and Transactions: While ETH is primarily used to pay for gas fees, BLAST may be incorporated into the fee structure or staking mechanisms in the future as the ecosystem expands.

BLAST Token Distribution

According to the CoinMarketCap and Blast tokenomics website (as of May 6, 2025), the total supply of BLAST tokens is 1,000,000,000 BLAST, with a circulating supply of 28,340,703,794.3 BLAST.
