Why is my wallet address changed from what I copied?: Address Switcher

Modified on Fri, 3 May at 4:50 PM

Some traders may have experienced that once they copy a wallet address, especially for Bitcoin (BTC), and paste it into the destination address, the copied address automatically changes.

How does it work?

If you are creating a transaction and find that the copied wallet address differs once you paste it in the destination address field, this means that your computer or device is infected with the Masad Stealer Malware or virus that can detect wallet addresses and change them to the hacker’s addresses. Please note that this virus cannot be detected by anti-virus programs.

How can I prevent it?

We recommend that our customers always check the details of every transaction, especially the ones that involve digital assets, before submitting or confirming it as transactions for digital assets are irreversible once entering the blockchain.

It is also advisable to do the following steps to prevent and enhance the security of your account, device, and assets.

  • Change the address and password of the email address registered with your Bitkub Exchange account.
  • Activate the 2FA and SMS OTP functions.
  • Look for the files in your computer that you use to access your Bitkub Exchange account and other exchanges such as files with an Information.txt format in Location (Administrator/AppData.Roaming/amd64_usbhub3.inf.resources/ENU_302DE973F412439E9D41.7z/information.txt).
